inspired by Sweden's Dala Horses

In response to a visit by Serious Kitchen as part of National Libraries Day, we personalised Dala Horses.  Serious Kitchen's Vicki & Jonny joined in too!

Most of the horses were released into a prepared landscape however one beautiful creature was taken home by Mathesan, its creator - image below.

The completed work can be seen in the back room of Lytham Library where it will stay for a month or so.

Please check with the library for access - this room is closed week beginning 8 February. [Art Circle will meet as usual but in a different part of the building.]

Well done to everyone, thank you for coming along!

analysing composition

Following on from last weeks session, we used a series of images of photographs to analyse composition.  The set of 17 square format images were an ideal resource to study static & dynamic composition.

The images were taken from the catologue of photographer, Howard Halsall who recently had the original work on show in the Fylde Gallery, Booths Lytham.

The task:
1.  by making thumbnail sketches, show the lines and shapes that create the structure of the images
2.  use a similar process to analyse an image of a Dutch Masters' painting.

The excellent results follow.

shape and composition...

The task...
  • make an observational drawing of the objects focusing on shape and line rather than form
  • strengthen the lines made
  • using "magic corners" isolate elements of the drawing to create compositions

I've said it before but will happily repeat, your work is wonderful!  You don't realise how good you are...  very well done!
