tonal values & mark making with pencil

A roof lantern light and bright room lights make tonal drawing a challenge but we had a go.

Ideally, chiaroscuro or the treatment of light and shade in drawing and painting is best tried in a darkened room with a strong light directed to a part of the subject. (see end of post)  We had bright room lights with daylight from above!

Next time, Plan B as soon as I've thought of it.

Well done everyone - Lovely mark making!

Fun Palace, St Annes Library

What a lovely way to spend a couple of hours on a grey Saturday in October.
Lots of colour, plenty of interested and interesting people to talk to, new acquaintances with similar experiences, old friends and lively chatter from the younger folk.

Thank you everyone for joining in.  I hope you like the photos of your artwork.  Please share with family and friends if you would like to.
