Fylde Libraries and the Mobile Library, which is based at Garstang have enabled Circles of Light - Fylde to meet over 400 lovely people who have made over 550 beautiful drawings. Thank you to everyone who came along and took part and a special thank you to all the library staff who made us feel so welcome.
Our next sessions will be at St Annes Arts Festival, 7 - 9 September. more details soon

Charlie's Garden Party at Lytham Hall
What a busy afternoon....
The sun came out, lots of happy, smiley people, Alice in Wonderland and donkeys. Thank you Sharon for letting us share a fab afternoon. I hope you raised lots of money to help Charlie.
If anyone missed it and would like to join in the next fund raising event, head for Park View 4 U on Saturday, 25th August. Charlie's Fun Time Factory will be there between 11.30 and 5.30.
Don't forget to visit Circles of Light too! We will be at Lytham Library Saturday, 25th August 12 - 3pm.
Plenty of time to do both...

Charlie's Garden Party at Lytham Hall
Sharon & Nathalie's drawings |
On Saturday, 11th August we met Sharon Woolly who local people may remember was in the Lytham St Annes Express this week with a fresh plea for support to raise money to help cure her son of an agressive form of children's cancer, neuroblastoma.
Sharon & her friend, Nathalie were out and about in Lytham and St Annes finding places for posters to promote their fund raising event, "Charlie's Garden Party". We offered them a seat and learnt more about their appeal whilst they made drawings for us.

We had a wonderful time in St Annes. We not only met lots of interesting people but synchronicity played a part and brought along an old friend who now teaches the very thing we've been looking for!
As always, thank you to everyone who took part and for all your beautiful drawings.

mid-project reflection...
Way back near the start of "Circles of Light (The Big Draw in Fylde) 2012" on 9th May, I received a package from America. Inside were the completed circles of Miss Selway's Class. Yes, I know "international" claims were made!
This was quite extraordinary in itself but if you look at the beautiful drawings of baseball, basketball etc you get a flavour of American culture. It hadn't occured to me before but as Circles of Light unfolds and more drawings are made you get a real sense of British culture; a sense of the things that matter to us as individuals and a sense of national pride.
The project was intentionally celebratory and about love and "feel good" sensibilities, particularly in 2012 the year of the Queen's Jubilee, the Olympics, the Open Golf held locally etc. (The Tour de France results were a fantastic bonus.) but now, as we're over half way through it's obvious the final work is equally about how we link together culturally and emotionally.
Our culture is evident in drawings of shared interests and passions, our emotional connections are demonstrated not only in drawings of families and friends but also in the photographs taken to document participation. These beautiful images have quite rightly, taken on a life of their own.
Thank you to everyone who has let me share these moments, I hope you like them as much as I do and a special thank you to Miss Selway's students for helping me see the obvious in the first place!
