Circles of Light-Fylde brings the Big Draw to Fylde

Lottery money enables award winning, local artist to bring an even bigger Big Draw project to Fylde

St Annes artist, Christine Stringfellow has been granted nearly £10,000 of Lottery money through Grants for the Arts to delivery 44 Big Draw sessions across Fylde this summer.  2,012 drawings of “something you love” will be brought together later in the year to make two, walk-through artist’s interventions, one in Kirkham and one in Lytham St Annes.  The Lottery money will also pay for work experience and training in project management for three early career artists.

Artist and Project Manager, Christine says, “It’s a fantastic opportunity for everyone involved.  Everyone will benefit not least the more isolated communities of Fylde.”  “It’s an ambitious, celebratory project and everyone can take part regardless of age or drawing ability!”

Fylde Libraries and Mobile Library, Friends of Kirkham Parks and St Annes Music and Arts Festival are involved and talks are underway with Lancashire Arts Development Team to link with art activity planned during the Open Golf.

The Campaign for Drawing has one aim...

The Campaign for Drawing has one aim: to get everyone drawing.

Circles of Light (The Big Draw in Fylde) 2012 wants to get everyone drawing too...

During the summer of 2012, forty four workshops and drop-in activities will take place across Fylde.  Do come along to one or if you belong to a group email circlesoflight-fylde@hotmail.co.uk and you might be able to book your own.

All the drawings made will become components of an artist's intervention which will go on display during October half-term to coincide with The Big Draw focus month.

News of our activities will be posted here.  Keep coming back to find what's happening, where we are next and our plans for October.

... even the ducks were sheltering!

Thank you to everyone who applied for the role of Project Assistant.  From over forty applications, I managed to make a shortlist and this fantastic four braved the weather and met me at Fairhaven Lake in my temporary office.  One day it was so wet even the ducks were sheltering!

All had different potential and different experience and skills to bring to the project but one stood out who, I'm pleased to say has agreed to join me in this year's adventure.  So at last, Circles of Light (The Big Draw in Fylde) 2012 can get into full swing.

If you were unsuccessful this time, please don't be too disheartened, there will be more things happening and if you agree, I will hang on to your details and keep you informed of new opportunities as they arise.

It's reassuring to know there's a lot of talented and enthusiastic early career artist our there which can only bode well for the future.  May all your creativity flourish.
