practising people... perfect

We used "8 heads to a body" to begin to understand figure drawing using, How to Draw the Human Figure, Jose M. Parramon - a book I've had for 20 years.

The drawings of the manikin where made first then we broke down the structure of the figure using this mathematical approach.

7.5 heads - an ordinary figure
8    heads - an ideal figure
8.5 heads - an heroic figure

To make a super hero, the head needs to be smaller.

Everyone improved - most excellent!

van Gogh, mark making and white & black

White on Black using the mark making of Vincent van Gogh as a starting point then moving into drawing with both hands at once...

If you haven't tried this, have a go.
The excellent results follow.

pebbly pastel perspectives

We used large lengths of brown paper, approx 6 ft and used soft pastel to explore two aspects of aerial perspective.

Aerial perspective
  • objects of a similar size appear smaller as they recede or move away from the viewer
  • colours appear to fade as they recede from the viewer
  • over much larger distances, the colours change to blues

Well done Monica & Elizabeth Anne.  Sometimes a small group brings about BIG things!
